End of term letter

27 August 2015

I would like to thank all for your continued support throughout this academic year.   It has been such a successful year having been judged by Estyn inspectors as being ‘Excellent’ for current performance.  Inspectors also described the distinctiveness and effectiveness of St John’s as a Church in Wales High School as ‘Excellent’ and worship as ‘inspirational’.  Welsh Government categorised us as a Green, category 1 school.   We have achieved such accolades through the:

·         diligence of pupils of whom we are so proud

·         the expertise of staff

·         the support of parents and carers

·         the support of governors

We were delighted that the Most Reverend Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan was at the Holy Eucharist to mark the 40th year since the opening of the school.  This was such a privilege and honour for our whole school community.

There has been so much to celebrate such as sporting success, musical concerts, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, a wide range of extra-curricular activities and many fund raising events which make me so proud of our school.

I wish our whole school community a very enjoyable summer break, and look forward to seeing pupils on Thursday, 3rd September 2015 (please note that it is essential that pupils come into school with uniform including the correct knee length skirt, no jewellery or make-up.)

Very best wishes

Dr S M Mitchell
