This year St John's is taking part in an exciting pilot project called The Gatsby Project. The aim of this project is to improve careers provision throughout the key stages. The eight Gatsby Benchmarks are outlined below, and we will be working towards these over the coming years.

1. A Stable Careers Programme
2. Learning from Career and Labour Market Information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of work places
7. Encounters with Further and Higher Education
8. Personal Guidance

St John's has the support of Careers Wales and RCT Education, Employment and Training team, who offer hands on experiences with employers and deliver engaging information and training workshops.

Careers Advice

There is a Careers Advisor on site, Lynne Davies. She is not based on site all week but there is an attendance poster on the door of the Careers Room which informs you when she is available. All pupils are welcome to call in for information or to book an appointment, if relevant.

Lynne Davies is also holding a 'drop-in' session on Monday lunch times.

Lynne Davies can also be contacted by e-mail or at the Aberdare Careers Centre on 0800 028 4844 ext 5017.

Careers information is also available on the Careers Wales website. This is a great source of job and career facts, figures and information.

The site also lists all the school/college courses across Wales. It also has vacancies aimed at 16-24 year olds, especially Apprenticeships, has CV tips etc. You can also use the website to request an appointment or to engage in a live webchat with a Careers Adviser.
