I am proud to welcome you to St. John Baptist (Church in Wales) Voluntary Aided High School. Our School is a mixed 11-18 years, Church School, with approximately 960 pupils. It occupies modern, and well equipped premises on an extensive and attractive site at Glandare, Aberdare. This site includes the school's own extensive playing fields and is adjacent to the Dare Valley Country Park.
The Religious Education and worship in the School are distinctive of the teaching and practice of the Church in Wales. Clerics of the Church in Wales are regular visitors at the school and preside at its worship. The application form for admission to the school accordingly asks parents whether they would undertake to ensure that their child(ren), if admitted, participate in religious worship, and receive religious teaching at the school. We ensure that worship is at the centre of school life and religious education is a key component of our curriculum.
The school day begins with prayers or an assembly. The whole school also celebrates the Holy Eucharist at school and in the churches of Aberdare, at the beginning and end of each term and on other occasions within the terms.
We aim to develop our pupils into well rounded young people, who are happy and well educated and believe that high attainment surrounded by faith and love is the correct basis for learning and development.
Dr Susan Mitchell - Headteacher BA (HONS), M.Ed.,PhD., N.P.Q.H.
