Today we celebrate St John Baptist Feast Day! As the forerunner of Christ, John dedicated his life to preparing our hearts for the Saviour. Through his call to repentance and his humble spirit, he reminds us to seek the light and truth in our own lives pic.twitter.com/0TIagEZ9e8— StJohnsAberdare () June 24, 2025

Governing Body

The Governing Body at St John's is made up of 21 members, with a wide variety of experience. Governors work closely together with the Executive Headteacher, the leadership team and staff to help formulate the aims and policies of the school.

St John's is a Voluntary Aided School. This means religious education and worship is led through the Christian faith and that we are able to apply specific requirements for student entry and staff appointments. The governing body is responsible for the costs of external building repairs. The Church in Wales is our founding body and appoints the majority of governors, known as 'Foundation' Governors. The governing body is a vital part of the leadership of the school and our role in developing the work of the school as a church school is independently inspected. The Executive Headteacher, staff and governors work as a united team dedicated to realising a shared Christian vision for the school.

As set out in law, no individual governor has any over-arching authority within the governing body. Each sub-committee has delegated powers awarded by the governing body as a whole. However, the chair of governors has the authority to answer letters and liaise with the Executive Headteacher to deal with emergencies without recourse to the full governing body.

The Full Governing Body meets four times per year.
